Comfort zone....get out of it!
I was reading Francis Chans book, Crazy Love and it really convicted me when he spoke of people who gave up thier lives to serve others for the sake of the gospel. Were talking about a man, a gifted doctor, who desperatly wanted to cure and serve the less fortunate in Africa, had every single one of his teeth removed so that he would not have to travel back to the states to have them worked on. Because if he had not removed them, then he would lose precious time in serving others elswhere. A husband and wife, who had 3 chilren, all of the age of 10, make breakfast and serve them to the homeless, every Christmas morning. WOW! Talk about self sacrafice, and taking up your cross. We as Christians, have a bit of a challenge. Or some would say, a problem. Were believers of Jesus, and not followers of Jesus. Believers simply believe, while followers follow. When you believe something, you simply put thought into it without much action. You take it for face value and you trust in what you told or what you were taught. While followers, mirror a commandment. Followers of Jesus reflect his character, followers of Jesus walk as he did. Followers of Jesus mirror his heart , his steps, his outreach, his love, and his Father. Jesus didnt have a place to lay his head (luke 9:58), nor was liked by many ( Mathew 23:13 ), but his mission was to be obedient to his father, and go against the flow, and step outside of himself so that his father would be glorified. When was the last time that you were obedient to your heavenly father? Have you been going against the flow of the world? Have you thrown your sinful nature and old selfish desires upon the cross? But most importantly, do you follow Jesus? Or do you believe in Jesus? As it says in Mark 10:45, Jesus came to serve, and not to be served. So we must examine our lives and ask ourselves if we are following Jesus and mirroring his mission by serving others. When we, step out of our comfort zones, remember what Jesus said in Mathew 25:40 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' My friend, your work for the Lord is not in vain, it is for the Glory of God!
